as a poor college student (but apparently not poor enough to not own a Porsche

I did regret it kinda
When the slave cylinder's seal went overnight and all the hydraulic fluid leaked out, and it cost my $450 to make it all better
When oil smoke started to come out from under the hood at regular intervals
When the power windows suddenly stopped working
when the hatch began to leak very badly
when the tires turned out to be worn a lot more than i expected
when i learned about all the potential bad things that can happen to this kind and age of car (timing belt paranoia)
when I paid $5,100 up front for an early NA 944
when it had only 24,600 miles on it
when the exterior and interior turned out to be very clean and virtually unmarred
When I found it can go fast enough to make me smile
When it takes corners at speeds that my old car could only barely do in a straight line
When i found its aggressive styling still compares favorably with current model styles and looks better everyday
When the new cd deck i installed makes it even more fun
where was I going with this?
It seems like its a lot of work and/or pretty spendy, but Its certainly a fun car and has style like few others, but i kinda wish i had found a good similair performing car that was a little less worrisome.

I am tired of replacing mechanical components. My tag line used to read finally done with the mechanical stuff on to the fun stuff.. that was a year ago or so. it never ended. I remind myself that I am replacing parts that lasted 18 years and will last another 18. That aside all I have to do is drive my kids RX-7 or my moms saturn or her new tracker.. It takes like 4 seconds to remind me of why I will continue this rebuild up.. Just about ready to put in the new interior. Nothing else is the same ride. Thing is before this I never gave much thought to my vehicle.. lamented giving up the 70 mach 1. that may be what drives me to keep this car.. Cause I know I would lament it even more.. So I will put it away in a few weeks and store up parts all winter and take a week in the spring to get this rebuild done. and paint it. This has been a 3 year project... Regret nah. wish it was perfect? yes. Why? not sure. I have driven every vehicle I have owned to the junk yard except the 70 mach1.. SO I will probably own this vehicle till I perish.... wonder what an 85.5 will be worth in 2020????

My 85.5 944 was a great learning experience. Not much power but a lot of fun.
The S2 is gonna be great. I got it for $4800 and I'll probably drop $7500 into it but it will be worth it to me. Heck, I may just turbo it after everything else is done just for the hell of it.
I'd much rather buy a car that needs attention and do it all myself. You tend to appreciate it more.

Not one regret in buying the 83 I have now. What I do regret is not confronting the neighbor around the corner about why his 951 hasn't moved in 8 years. One day I will....

Even after all the BS I have gone through with mine, no regrets, but I have gained a ton of respect for it.
The way I see it, there is no car out there that drives, looks, sounds, etc the way the 951 does. It's the car for me.
