I found this cover in another thread, I kind of like it, and they will do LHD, and speaker hole delete if requested.

That looks like a promising option for a leather stitched dash

I have a number of VWs with a similar problem. I sometimes daydream about cobbling together my own rig to vacu-form vinyl replacement coverings the same way the factory did it, and like Just Dashes does it. I have an industrial vacuum pump & all, and it would be easy enough to weld together a frame. The thin foam and vinyl are easy enough to find. The difficult part is creating a jig for each dash style that would support it from being crushed under pressure. But it's doable...

I've always been irked that my wife's 88 VW Cabriolet has a perfect dash and has sat in the sun for years. The glove box door did delaminate and I had to replace it with junkyard one for a couple of bucks.

Interesting I may send them a message. I am torn between a dash cover or to install a classic 9 kit. I had installed the classic 9 kit on my old 951 and it looked very sharp but it was a lot of money. I wonder if those caps match the factory interior colours (mine is blue)

I'm not necessarily saying I'd be in and I'm not sure about the rules here but those leather dashes look about as good as any I've seen so I'd be curious if they would do a discount on a group buy for some LHD versions (I'm guessing if we all agreed on a color scheme it'd be more likely).

Yeah Cabby dashes seem to hold up really well whereas Scirocco dashes are as bad as 944 dashes. Both VW cars built at Karmann, presumably same suppliers, so anybody's guess if the Cabby dashes had some special sauce.

Thanks for tipping me off to Classic 9, that is some quality stuff. But indeed salty.

I may pull the trigger on this one, but after the holidays if I do.
I think the leather, with red stitching in a red car will look rather awesome.

I went with the Classic 9 kit for my '86 and did all the prep work. I enlisted the help of an experienced auto upholster to install it. He ended up wanting my help to install the cover since two sets of hands made the job a lot easier.

Removing the dash is not that difficult, just go slow and easy. Picking up the cheap auto interior trim removal kit from HF helps quite a bit. Even helps with installing trim bits.

I considered a cover, but in the long run re-covering the dash is the best option.
