Hmm... get me thinking of the Rinspeed Bedouin's iridescent paint that costed $5700 per gallon: Autoweek on Rinspeed. It might look better in person, but I think it looks horrible in the photos. Hey, how about painting it glow-in-the-dark? How much would that cost?

One point I guess I didn't make clear is I don't want it a normal iridescent color. I want it a black/dark red iridescence...both colors stock, garnet red metallic and graphite black metallic...if its at all possible to make your own iridescence...it may not even be possible. Its either going to be that or repaint it garnet red....but would love to see the iridescence on it....

I think a black/red would look awesome! Or a black with a red metal flake. Actually what else looks good is a DEEP DEEP, VERY DARK red. So it looks black, but at the edges, corners, and lines on a car you can see a nice red highlight. If you can get a good looking black to red switch, go for it! I would love a blue/white/black switching paint. I dont care what people think! So far i dont think that one is possible.

doesn't matter, you can't make a red/black colorshift paint, nobody makes a flake like that and all the paint manufacturers get flake/pigment from same sources or each other . Closest thing would be a black cherry pearl/candy. Ugh.

Go to a paint supplier that carries DuPont paints there are about 50 or so colors to choose from in the "flip-flop" or irredescent paints. Also House of Kolors has some pretty interesting paint too. You can do a red mid coat over different bases and get what you want. Something like a red over black but may be too subtle for what you want.

What??? I swear ive seen metal flake that color? Not on a car though, on a guitar. If someone can paint a guitar a certain color, im sure it can be done on a car. They guy who painted my instrument even did a 944! He did the car one panel at a time. I wish i could find those pictures. (basically its neon multi-color swirls all over) The guy does motorcycles as well. ANYTHING is possible with the right backing for it. (usually means deep pockets)

Metal flake and colorshift are two very different products. Regardless of funding you can't buy it if nobody makes it, and nobody makes a black/red colorshift product. The colorshift effect is caused by the way the c.s. flake bends light. You can't bend light and get black(can you?). I distribute Dupont refinish products and I can tell you that color combo just isn't available.House of Color,PPG,Dupont, others all have colorshift colors made from the same six basic pigments. Each adds different mixing toners for variation but thats it. Dupont's Standox brand has some new colors along this same line but the effects are all together different. The closest you can get would be a dark red midcoat(candy) over a black pearl basecoat.

My car has got a special ordered paint from the factory (Dark Amethyst metallic) - looks black until there's light on it and then it turns purple.

Here's a side shot.. Hard to see the purple in the paint but it's there and really obvious in direct sunlight..

Is that a moth on your car?? I had a moth get dust all over my windshield once. It was pretty funny. And annoying.
