Default Air horn recommendations

Looking to get a air horn for my car, need some recommendations for something that sounds as close to a big rig as possible. It seems as soon as i arrived at college, all the worse drivers in the world moved in around me. I was thinking of setting up the airhorn to a different switch so that i could leave the stock horn for the not so bad drivers, and the air horn for the *** holes that drive chevy caviliers and try to pass me by going into the turning lane...then proceed to cut me off. Anyway yea, anyone else with airhorns on their cars? I was looking at the FIAAM horns at Pepboys, but most of them sound like the higher pitched airhorns you would hear on boats at the marina...i want tractor trailer style.

If your stock horns are the original units, I would suggest investing the money in a new set of MIXO horns (stock). Air horn longevity is nowhere near as good as the stock units, and you'll have a nice, brassy, stock sound that's sure to get everyone's attention in style.

unfortunately for the big-rig sound, you'll need to go with a larger horn like, well, on the big-rigs. and that would be impractical as you'd need quite a generous air source and lots of room. (unless you'd be willing to mount them on your roof ) I've sold a few Hellas in the past with good results. they have that decidedly Italian sound and will get your attention in a hurry

Best realistic and legal horn mod you'll find - Hella SuperTone (300 and 500HZ at 118dB, ~$65):

Not that this helps or anything, but the father of a friend of mine installed the horn off of a train onto his Chevy dually truck. Now that thing would get your attention! Makes everyone in a 1 block radius jump. He had them installed on the underside of the truck. Very nice, but I assume also very illegal.

But yeah, for any of those type of large horns, your going to have to install an air compressor/reservoir.

Guys, there is no need for louder horns - especially in urban or suburban environment. IMHO, it just contributes to general driving aggrevations and pisses off people who live nearby - like yours truly. Be forewarned, I keep some eggs by my window for throwing at drivers with excessive honking.

I used to run a Fiamm on a bike. Amazing tone and volume, but it drained the bike battery after one use. Has to wait an hour to use it again, but worth it! People would be looking around for the truck!

Get some twaked BOSCH units off of an old benz. They are very loud and get ppl's attention very quickly. They cost a lot but they are worth it.

You want loud? Like glass shattering, teeth cracking, obnoxious permanent hearing damage loud? Check out these bad boys.

"You want LOUD this is it ! So loud it will HURT YA!! "

or throw this 135db monster under the hood

By the way, major pain in the ears occurs at 125db. A jet engine is 140db. Death of hearing tissue begins at 180db. So I would say the 135 db horns should be just what you're looking for.

I really hate it when people around here try to move everyone out of the way with their horn. If anything it makes me go slower just for the fun of it.

Or the guy behind you at the traffic light that starts honking the minute the light turns gree. While your sitting there watching the 3 other idiots run the red light in front of you. Tends to make me want to sit there just a little bit longer too.

led,
I was stationed in Sebana Seca back in 1973, remember watching 3 cars on a 4 lane highway where it narrowed to a 2 lane road, made a traffic jam for 10 minutes, honking away, all three trying to be first. LMAO.....
