Door Stops on 1995 early
I have a 1995 Early 944 and the door stops do not keep the door open when you are on a uphill incline thus making it difficult to get out of the car while holding door open (at least for a 73 year old). Is the door stop suppose to keep the door open? I know it doesn't on my '62 356 but does on my '97 993. Might be a dumb question, hopefully not. Thanks

I assume the year of your car is a typo... my '87 924S is parked for the winter so I can't take it to a hill to test the doors, but even on the level there is not a lot of retaining force. If I remember right I have the same problem as you. By any chance do you live on the side of the mountain on the north-east side of Tucson?

It sounds like your door stops (i.e. door checks) are worn out. Good ones should keep the doors open even when facing uphill, depending on the steepness, of course. It won't hold it open all the way, but it should be more than halfway.
They're pretty cheap, I just bought one from a local dealer for about 20 bucks.

If you decide to replace the door checks be very careful with the bolts that hold the unit to the A pillar - the are in there tight and with heavy duty loctite and the nut on the back side is only tack welded. I would recommend heat on the head of the bolt prior to attempting to remove.
