Default Idle question

I have my 84 944 running and moving, stopping even, but still needs a lot of sorting out still.
I was curious about the idle on this thing, it's at about 900 rpms, but there is a lot of vibration, rattles the crap out of the car! Should it be a little smoother?
As soon as I give a little throttle, it gets smoother, but at idle, it rattles your teeth.

I'm thinking I should check and see if the balance shaft belt is there, I plan to do belts and pump, just not right away, any other thoughts?

Sounds like shot motor mounts.

My balance shafts are gone and the idle is smooth, it's just a few points higher up in rev range where you can tell.

Thanks, motor mounts are here, just not in the car yet. Waiting for me to get around to it.
