Default 1984 944 hood emblem

I want to install a replacement hood emblem on my 1984 944 n/a. I see some posts on the forum that say the nose piece can be unscrewed, but mine appears to be welded on. I am VERY leery about trying to pry the emblem off, cuz what happens if I screw it up.

If I don't remove it, can the factory emblem be polished with something like BRASSO, or is it lacquered?

ok, i dont know if they changed anything in 87 but mine is not screwed down. It has 2 rubber plugs over a metal plug and a latex piece shaped like the emblem. I bought a new one to put on mine.

brasso will work ,but not too much. i suggest taking a toothbrush and carefully going over it. as long as the cloissenne is good (plastic/urethane/whatever) it should polish up alright. however, after too much polishing you will wear through to the copper base, brasso is somewhat corrosive.

check out what i did with a spare one i had for my '84.

note: you can carefully VERY carefully pull it out with your hands. if you dont think you want to try see if you can't polish it.

If I pry off the emblem but can't get to the back of it because the nose piece is welded on, will I have any problem since I can't get the little clippies on the prongs, or can I just put some caulking on the prongs and stick it on?

i doubt there are any clippies. my car doesnt have any, then again that doesnt mean that yours is clippie free. mine comes on and off freely (maybe i shouldnt say that too loud), and i think yours should come off without too much hassle. if one of the prongs comes off some jb weld should take care of it. the prongs are a little (read VERY LITTLE) bit flexible, they should be able to be installed and taken out a few times. i do every time i wax my car. if it's to hard to get off give polishing it a shot!

I guess I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks.
