Default Turbo choice

Hey i've been looking around and noticed that some people are using T4 turbos in there 951's. My cousin has a T4 in his 91 toyota supra and was going to sell it to me. Are these more powerful then the like K27's or somthin? why do some have a T and others have a K please excuse my lack of knowledge on the turbo subject.

You'd have many less headaches if you were to put a supercharger on your 944 na or just find a 951. Turbo'ing an na is waayyyyyy more than just adding a turbo. Almost everything in the just the engine is bigger and stronger, not to mention the suspension, transaxle, brakes are all beefier.

Along with the money you initially paid for the car and the amount of money you'll pay to effectively turbocharge your na, you could easily buy a 951.

Just food for thought

oh my goodness, augusta. i was stationed there. hated it. but i won't hold that against you. to answer your q, it's gonna be a matter of personal choice for the most part. the t3/t4 hybrid is supposed to be one of the stronger performers. there are tons of differences in all the turbos, too much to mention here, but stick with the garrett. they've been building these things forever. they also build turbos for aircraft engines, as well as building turboprops (another airplane engine). they know what the hell they are doing. stay away from mitsubishi turbos, just do a general search in google.

I think you would destroy your transmission because of the extra power you'l get from the turbo. You would need to convert a lot of things, not because you are converting to a 951, but just because the NA parts cannot support the turbo's power.

yeah
what else i thought of doing was finding a
6-speed limited slip tranny
but thats a lot of bucks!
but that would handle it
and i think i would need to lower the compression

With that thought, you should go for the 951. By time you add the turbo, tranny, etc. and made it all work, you will have exceded the price of a nice 951.

What the hell does any of that have to do with the posters question?

I am hijacking this thread and returning it to the proper owner.

I dont believe the T4 in the Supra will work in this application but I am not positive. You could call Majestic Turbo in Waco, TX or Turbonetics in California to be sure.

Boricua944, the T4 is just a classification for a type of turbo from Garrett. It can be suited well for a particular application, or not. I wouldn't call it a "better" turbo per say.

Campeck, what everybody here's saying is true. A 944 turbo is so much more car, it's not worth trying to mess w/a 944. If you're tuning the car's suspension on the otherhand, a 944 can make a VERY fun car.

A regular (if there is such a thing) T4 will not bolt up to a 944. Anything's doable with some fabrication and money though...
