Default Lighten balance shafts?

I have just finished polishing out the journals on my balance shafts for a rebuild, and got to admiring the shafts when a thought struck me...since there is a ****-poor grinding of the factory welding done to the shafts, surely they cannot be truly balanced (or as balanced as they could be). Anyone think there is a way to lighten the balance shafts? Since they are attached to the reciprocating system in a fashion, they have a relevant impact on how the rest of the parts function. That's why racers remove them for one, less rotating mass=quicker acceleration, we all know that. I may start playing with the idea. Who is the guy that has all those bal. shafts...I saw a post about someone needing some and he was directed to him. I'm wanting to know because I'm going to retain my shafts in my engine rebuild. Any thoughts, comments, or sacasm welcome.

It is hard to ligten the balance shafts since they are naturally out balance. The are in fact a controlled out of balance. Unless you know what the out balance amount is supposed to be and can measured that leave them as is because you will probably just make things worse.

There is much truth in what you speak. I thought of the being naturally out-of-balance thing but didn't make the connection about it. Hmmm....

Crunchy Frog. If we took the bones out it would not be crunchy!

Balance shafts. If we lightened them they would not "balance"!
