MHT, IIRC the 951 holds more than the N/A, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

951's hold a little over 7 and the NA's hold 6.4 quarts. MHT said it right

There are no stupid questions, especially when they are asked in advance.

I always think of how stupid I'll feel if I DIDN'T ask, and then f-ed it up.

i change oil and filter. change the oil then put in 5 quarts. let it run for a few (get oil in everywhere) and then turn it off. check then. i usually add a quart after that. its generally in the middle to 3/4 of the way up the thing. my car burns 0 oil, but i still check at every fill up and carry two spare quarts in the storage area. YMMV

mobil 1 is not the be-all end-all of oils.

i use Castrol GTX 20w-50 and it works just fine, a tad under 3k between changes, and she doesnt burn a drop. leaks a bit out the opsu, but no biggie... i'll get around to changing that crush washer sooner or later.

let the debate between synth and dino begin!

i would start checking at 5 qts. i would not run the engine and then check, as it takes a few minutes for the oil to fall back into the pan. you do not want to overfill! i will not get into the synthetic vs standard vs blend debate.

Early car holds 5.8 quarts. If changing filter as well, fill about 5 and use the stick for the rest. 1/4 quart over full mark is a good idea with these early cars, since the pan doesn't have baffles.

5 quarts is more than enough to pu tin the car and start it. i put in 6 full quarts every time with filter change and i have NEVER had a problem. corner hard all the time, and no pressure drop issues. i have also never overfilled by doing this.

5150 - thats why i said put in 5 quarts and then run it for a few minutes(to fill the filter) and then let it sit for a few minutes. Then check/add a quart, i've done this ever since i got the car and it has never failed me... please READ THE POST before you reply.
