Default Speed Sensor Removal..stuck!

I have the Ref sensor out. That wasn't a problem. I have the Speed sensor bolt Hex Bolt out and the speed sensor is about 1/8 th of the way out. It will rotate side to side, but does not seem to want to come out. What should I do (these are tight quarters, no room for pliers). :?:

I had the same problem. I had to remove the bracket that the sensors go through. I was stuck so badly that once I got the bracket off I had to tap the sensor out with a hammer. The sensor was ruined.

What is the easiest way to remove the bracket? Also, will I have to re-align the bracket? Is this a pain in the a**?

Try using WD40 before you remove the bracket. You WILL have to re-align if you take the bracket out. The problem is most likely the joint between the metal portion of the sensor and the plastic (the speed and ref sensors are identical. So just work it the best you can.

Carefull about spraying any oil down there.. THat is your clutch.. Unless that is what you are doing.. If that is not what you are doing I would try putting some brake cleaner first. not spraying just take the cap and spray some in there till you get some liquid and then try and paint it around the sensor and try wiggling and rotating it out.. If you get movement it is just gunked up, If it does not get any better then it has mushroomed. and will require the bracket removal.....

Is it a 6mm hex? Should I use an Allen Wrench or buy a socket and use a rachet for the bracket. What does aligning the bracket entail?

Not sure about an 83, but an 89 has 2 bolts. Re-alignment is CRITICAL.. follow the instructions for super-gluing a washer on the end of one, per the Porsche service manual.

Went to Sears and bought a small pry bar. It worked beautifully. It came out smoothly. I replaced both the Speed and Reference Sensors and it still won't start!! At least I didn't have to align the bracket.
