Default Hole in distributor housing

Is there supposed to be a hole there? I just noticed mine had a hole where you can see the gear inside the hole. I have opened my engine a few times and haven't seen this before. Please tell me that hole is supposed to be there (like the hole in the bell housing).

That hole is where you line up the mark on the cam gear for setting TDC. There should also be a mark on the housing that you line up with the cam gear mark. Almost like sighting down the barrel of a gun.
