Default Saying goodbye to a beloved friend

With much sadness I am leaving the 944 forum after the forced departure(wife) of my beloved rare 951. I joined Rennlist back in 2000 but due to some account issue I had to rejoin in 2011. There are amazing people in the word that have collected on this site that I can’t thank enough for their assistance over those years.
The pain is more than expected but I have had this car longer than my wife or my children after all. It will soon leave on a transport and even though it still sits in the garage next to the 997 I’m commiserating like never before. I can barely look at the 911. It is such a different experience than the 997 or any other modern car cannot replace it. The physical driving experience, the simple shape of the car. I have found nothing like it since it was created. The new owner is a phenomenal individual and we have a gentleman’s agreement that should he ever want to part with it I will have the chance to buy it back. I hope to return some day.
Brian

What other car looks like this.

Off into the sunset for the last time !!

If you are so attached to it, why sell it?

The wife has lost her mind. I bought a 997 two years ago and there isn't space for both if I plan to stay married. I know in 10 years I will kick myself for selling it but by then the children will be out of college and I can separate and buy it back.

Sell the 997. One of your Porsches will appreciate, and the other will depreciate. You can pick up another 997 down the road for a discount.

You won't get that car back, rare color, good shape. 10 years on its going to be an expensive decision.

All great points. 997 certainly is not so rare and I've never seen another 951 this color bit it's hard to describe. The 911 is something I needed to do. The 951 was something I wanted to do 18 yrs ago that turned into something much more than expected. I've had a transplant and survived some health issues and it's a way to move forward to different part of my life. I've tracked the 951 a few times and love every minute but I regret the rock chips and risk for damage to it. I don't want to trash it where the 997 I don't have those concerns over. Since I need a track monkey to abuse and a weekend car in one the 997 fits the bill. I simply cannot keep both right now.

This says it all.

Lose the wife and find one that understands. You can't have mine. They are a very hard to find.

There is no joy in selling a sorted classic, but sometimes it's the right/only decision. Life goes on.

Absolutely beautiful car! The new owner is a lucky fellow.

At least you have a 997 to fall back on... and not a minivan.

Have you thought of storing it?

If the money from a sale is needed with wife and kids in the mix then time to move on.

Some things change as they age. Some get better like the car, others turn into crankzilla !
Tempest, Jhowell glad that your other halves are as supportive as they are. My wife won't even get into my cars to go for a ride but the children love them. 8 yr old cried when I told her.
I will turn the funds in something I can enjoy in some way. Movie room and bar in the basement, a lake cottage in NY wine country, something she will see as practical for the family.
