Silent turbo pump
'86 944 Turbo (951) has been garaged for nearly 9 months. Fired it up today. All seemed well. Took her out for a test ride, got home and noticed that for the first time ever the turbo water coolant pump was not running after stopping the engine.
Should I be concerned? I'm planning a 250 mile run tomorrow. How can I check that the pump is performing OK?
I assume that the pump runs all the time when the engine is running rather than just to make sure it is properly cooled after stopping.
Help!

Same thing happened to mine (86’ 951). Check voltage at the pump with meter to rule out pump failure. Very easy access (unlike most things). Could just be relay. Get it fixed regardless. You want that turbo to get cooled down as much and as quickly as possible.
