Default Dome light/stereo circuit weirdness

So, anyone even had this happen?

Most of the way through a ~45 minute drive, fuse #7 blew on my 1984 NA. That's the fuse for the stereo, dome light, cig. lighter, etc.

After the fuse blew, I noticed that the dome light came on, and stays on until I close the door. There shouldn't be power to it at all once the fuse goes, so I know I've got a short somewhere that's supplying power to a ground point, which is patently BAD.

I've not had any issues with any of these before, and haven't done anything recently that should have anything to do with the electrical system. I checked the connections behind the center console, and everything there looks good- no loose stuff, everything connected correctly. Plan is to check the grounds and junk behind the gauge cluster, as well as the driver door switch next.

Has anyone had this come up before? Just figured that I might be able to shortcut the diagnosis process if someone's seen it.

Thanks guys!

I haven't had this problem, but is it possible that your dome light is actually on another fused circuit?
