Congratulations!! you are about to open the biggest can of worms of the month!!
STI is a great, great car!!! EVO magazine(one of the most credible sources) test drove an STI SPe-C(edgier STI) and the car had no problem keeping up with GT3 and M3 CSL .
I'm running away now as i can sense the flames.

Vlad.

p.s. check out the 944 Turbo & S forum for the thread "just test drove and EVO" to get the idea of where this thread can go

I'm not much for new cars at all, but the STi seems to be a lot of bang for the buck (kind of like used 951's). It definitely has caught my attention. For kicks a couple of weeks ago I checked out the local Subaru dealership and it appears to be a very nice car with sport seats, forged 18's, big Brembos, a water sprayed intercooler, etc. The styling is kind of a mixed bag with some parts being a bit overstated (i.e. intercooler scoop and wing). With 300 horse out of the box though it is understandable.

Personally I like the styling and it's nice to see that some companies are making some affordable sportscars again.

The Sti is a great car. I have not driven one, but my friend HAS one, and i"v gotten rids. Quite impressive. Handeling is unreal, excelleration is great, the looks decent, and its got some fun extras such as the intercooler spray and the diff settings. I agree with Dlefko, I like the previous generation look MUCH better. My brother has a previous gen. 2.5 RS. It's a 2000 blue coupe. Impressive little car, i really like it. only big downfalls of Subaru is their transmitions and clutches. not the most amount of engineering going into those. I can expand on that if you'd like. The STi owns the Evo, which i have driven a couple of times.

Checked it out at the dealer. Sat it in, opened the hood. Haven't driven one. Combined with performance reviews from several authorities the STi would be my first choice, on one condition. It would have to be available in wagon back and that ridiculous rear spoiler has to GO!

Too rice for me. I like the styling of the standard WRX better. It's more subtle and classic in design. When compared to the Mitsubishi EVO, the STI seems to be a little better in build-quality. The interior of the EVO was ridiculously cheap-looking, seats were like felt. I also thought the shifter and clutch in the EVO felt really cheap and not very substantial.

I know someone who got an STI and he loves it. Good bang for the buck, from what he says. He got rid of an Audi A6 to get the STI. Go figure.

Our local Subaru dealer will not let anyone testdrive the STI - you basically have to order one to drive it. I can't imagine doing that, but I guess enough people are willing. To be honest, they lost my business because of that.

damn you people must have some money to be calling this car cheap...30k is cheap? i was thinkin 20-25 is kinda cheap but what kinda cars are in that range..a wrx, an srt-4, and maybe an entry level 350z? As far as 30k thats just too much to be spending on a subaru or mitsubishi.

its not cheap... but its cheap considering what ur getting for 30k... This car can out perform cars that are 50k+.. pretty cheap to me for a fast, reliable car... but then agian im 14 and dont have much wisdom ne ways.. but thats just my opinion

In some ways, $30k is cheap for what you're getting in the STI, but in other ways, $30k is over-priced. It all depends on what your priorities are.

When my husband and I were looking to buy a new car, the STI was on our list because it fit our price range and we both like to drive fast, powerful cars with good handlability. But after doing a lot of looking at a lot of different models, we took the STI off our list because we felt we could get more for our money elsewhere.

With the STI you do get a fast, powerful car with awesome handling properties, but ultimately it's still a Subaru, and it's obvious where they spent the money in designing the car (hint: it's not in the interior or any creature comforts).

We ended up getting a Saab 9-3. It's a beautiful, well-built car AND it's turbocharged! Ok, it's not quite as powerful as the STI, but it's got pep, and for it's size it handles really well. And, we have the piece of mind that comes with owning a Saab. It's safe, it's got a good warranty and it comes from a long lineage of great cars.
