Default Help identifying vintage under-dash black boxes of unknown origin... (picture rich)

Greetings all - I'm trying to resuscitate a 1983 944 that hasn't fired in 13 years, and would very much like to remove these funky old boxes and the associated uber-funky wiring. This stuff really gives me a rash, especially when it's poorly executed like these were.

Here's a couple pics of the car (I'll start a separate thread on it and its progress)and the boxes and wiring in question - any help is very VERY much appreciated.

As found

starting to turn it around...

Woven into the wiring under dash including wires to and from coils... (!)

Back side of 'Commander'... what a name

wires from 'Commander' to a relay of some sort

relay

the OTHER box... kill switch? Radar detector? Has no power going to it, seems completely dead...

Looks like an aftermarket anti-theft device.

May well be why it hasn't run in years. Never seen this style before.
Sorry to be of no help ......

oh,

and you may want to employ the 'tin-foil' hat when trying to fire it. And be holding an extinguisher just in case things start smoldering.

Is there a phone number anywhere on the 'Commander' box, just on the outside chance one could call the maker and ask ?

Thanks for the response - no, no phone # anywhere on the box.

Yeah - I've nearly got the ole' girl firing but have a spark issue now and I'm not convinced this mess isn't to blame. The 'Commander' seems like a combo anti-theft and quasi-convenience type deal. Maybe something that holds the dome light on for awhile etc.

Along with the dodgy Porsche factory alarm (which I jumpered to get the fuel pump working again) there appear to be 3 anti-theft (anti-drive? ) systems if that's what these are.
