Okay, i just installed a "new" afm and it seems to work great. The idle is back to normal from the 1100 it was at. It also runs much smoother.
The problem I'm having is that the Air-fuel ration is very lean when it's cold out and the engine warms up, is this normal??

I don't know if the 84 is the same as my 89 in this regard, but you may have to get the CO level measured and the AFM adjusted by a shop. I just installed an afm too and it runs very well after the first 30 seconds. (The old afm ran well when cold, but caused lean hesitation at low and mid rpms.) There should be an adjustment screw hidden in an orifice at the top of the afm. After it's adjusted properly, permanently install a plug in that hole (remove the plug from your old one by lightly drilling or get a new one from the shop). Again this is what I'm doing with my 89, not certain about an 84. HTH
