Default Bad TPS = No Start Condition ????

All day yesterday the car started and ran fine for the "fun run". Today I go out for a bit and @ Starbucks she wont start.

Turns over fine. Very strong. I am talking about extended cranking of 15 - 30 seconds on a car that starts on 2-3 seconds. Matt even commented yesterday on how fast this things starts.

Swapped out DME relay, nothing.

Had second cup of coffee. Tried again. Started up fine.

The reason I ask about the TPS is that yesterday, every so often (happened about 5-6 times) my idle would go a little crazy, bouncing between 1000 and 1300. Matt (riding with me) mentioned "probably a bad TPS"....so,,,could that cause a no start condition?????

My car sometimes behaves this way, when it does I just wiggle the connectors for the reference sensors and it starts up fine.

Mybe you did....
Had the same symptoms, TPS proved to be dead...
The actual trouble is with an limit switch make Saia / Burgess, to be switched at closed throttle, installed in one housing with the position switch (fingers on an resistor path).
You may want to open the box, clean out the limit switch and try.
Mine required full replacement, havn't got to replacing the limit switch yet.

goingboeing737,

FWIW, I recently had an erratic idle problem with the 944S2 and it was solved by giving the throttle body a thorough cleaning.

The way to check the TPS is by pushing down on it with the engine turned off. It should make a very distinct clicking sound which you can't hear with the engine running.

Good luck.
