oil cooler question

I am putting new O-rings in my oil cooler. The kit I got from paragon has 2 metal washers. When I removed the oil cooler, it only had one metal washer behind the big rubber washer, on the oil cooler side. Does anyone know where the other metal washer goes, or if it goes somewhere. Thanks
