Default Quick Q... 924S engine-spec

Somebody help... I'm drawing a blank. Is the engine in an '87 924S an interference design??? I just realized that the relative of mine who (still) drives the car (and is giving it to me) hasn't changed the belts in a loooooonng time!

YES, same engine as 944, some changes in compression throughout the 86-88 years, but same timing belt. Better get it changed ASAP if it's old. I wouldn't even drive it until you are SURE it's good. Thankfully I don't know from experience as some on this board.

And as soon as you start thinking about doing the belts, but haven't done them yet, the odds of a belt failure GO UP dramatically...just do 'em now!! Don't risk offending the Porsche gods.....Al

I wouldn't dare offend them... it's just that the current owner has run the car into the ground and is ready to just give it to me as soon as the car needs a(nother) major fix and would've been disposed of. I was promised the car last November, but he has repaired it because he doesn't have time to buy a new car. I'm really just waiting for his decision and praying that nothing goes terribly wrong until then. I know the belts are a problem when not taken care of... I just want to get mentally prepared for the possibility of a head rebuild (which I would gladly do myself).
