Where have you been?

My 924s was dyno'ed for smog in December of 2001.

It was not that bad, except for the sickening smell of burning clutch.

I am hoping Andy will see this and check to see if he has a stock cat w/pipe in good condition. If he does not, we'll set up a deal.

It's not so much the money that bothers me (it would be nice to use it on something else), it's the fact that I blew an entire morning and got nothing done. If I failed, so be it, but for the love of god don't make me drive all over hell to ask people questions that they do not have the answers to, nor do they know the policies I am asking about. Each place said something different, and it got me nothing but an empty tank of gas.

I am gonna do this the easiest way possible. I'll slap a new cat on waste another $20 in gas driving out there to have it pass. When I get home, the cat comes off and sits in storage until next time.

Brian,

There are a lot of articles in Excellence about owners of early 70's 911s having to play games with tire sizes so that their carburated engines will be turning the right RPMs at 2500 in order to pass.

The sad thing is that there needs to be more enforcement for gross polluters, which you are not.

I would wait a few more days before going back in for a test. I bet one of the ways to get your car "profiled" is to pass a test a _very_ short period of time after failing a test.

I need to do my next smog test by 12/10/03. You've got me thinking about mine now.

I'm supposed to have mine done soon, but fortunately I can put it off because my car will be in storage until May. A 20 year old cat and 02 sensor can't be good for emissions.

Nah they'll be fine.

A 20oz can of Boston baked and one of Chilli. Now that's bad for emisions

The exhaust systems on these cars is awesome. I'm not worried about my 17 year old cat. My brother's 12 year old firebird is on its 4th set of mufflers.

My 02 sensor is about 4 years old. So hopefully no problems there.

Oh.. and by the way.... 100 cell race cats don't do squat for Nitrogen, just HC's. Luckily, the one I have is a spare for pops race car and we can still use it.

Brian, you've got PM! I forgot to say in there that I DO have a good one not in use right now. It's for dad's car, but his car is minus a motor right now. You can borrow it if need be. Call me...203-2410

Andy.. I'm stuck at the office for a while. I'll try and get in touch with you on Monday to work something out. I gotta get this done ASAP... tags expire this evening.

Nothing like being so busy that you don't have time to wipe your ***...

Take Cunningham with you next time.

Just to cut through the BS once and for all do the collector tags, otherwise you may be back here this time next year with the same story or still have to go through the anticipation and BS of testing.

I would, but I would go 2 months on expired tags until the collectors plates come in. (or I'd pay the $220 for 2 months of temp tags) I called a while ago about the collectors plates and got the lowdown on how long it takes. I was short on time then, so I skipped it thinking I could get it to pass.

I'll order the collectors plates this winter when the car sits.

OR.... option #278 ... it gets parked for the winter.

Try backing off the timing at the next test and double check for vacuum leaks. The high NOx means high combustion chamber temps. I put a spanking new SFR cat pipe (and new plugs and fresh oil) in my car and dropped only a couple hundred NOx points between tests. (I'm embroiled in my own battle with emissions testing here in VA.)

I'm now installing a new AFM. Our test is on a roller at 1500 and 2500rpms and the limits are very low... Oh and did I mention the exemption after $620 in repairs at a certified facility?

You'll find out that Bosch platinums are really platinum then, right?

I'm cool on the vac leaks.. I know everything is tight and solid. Timing... it's not adjustible as far as I know. (other than the fuel quality switch, chips, standalone, etc) Wanna toss a hint?

Ohio will exempt the car if you have $300 in repairs or parts within 60 days of the test (prior or after). They could care less about the $30,000 in new parts I have on it, just because I ordered them more than 60 days ago. I was not expecting the dropout behind the counter to understand that it's not really possible to restore a car in 60 days.
