Default Needed: Lighted lock ****

Found what I think is one of the problems with my alarm while I was in fixing my power locks (a $4 fix BTW!).

I found that the diode portion of the illuminated **** was fried.

Does any one have (or know a source for) a used illuminated ****?

Part # is: 944 637 138 00

This could come from any 90-91 S2 or Turbo.

Thanks in advance!

I have a pair from a 968 that I was GOING to try to install in my Turbo S- they are brand new- I don't have an alarm & was GOING to try to install them to light up/blink when I locked the car to LOOK like an alarm... Being 968's, they are a little longer- not sure if they would work- they were cheaper- paid ~$40 for the pair from Perfomrance Products...

Can you define "longer"?

There's a fair bit of room where they are supped to fit - so they might work.

If so - I'm interested!

Please PM when you get a chance.

Thanks,

I'll have to hold them up to each other- I plan to get into the stereo today(I'm installing 6x8 seperate's under the armrest of my Turbo S), so I'll hold them up to each other then, but, when screwed down all the way, it appears that the 968 ones, when locked, are about as tall as the 944 ones are when unlocked- does that make sense? I'll PM you w/my address right now...

Well - start by checking all the grounds and connections.

The alarm appears to look for open or closed circuits - depending on the "port of entry" hoor, door or hatch.

If all of those are working, then the control brain is next, I guess.

But as always - the odds are best it'll be the swtich gear and connectors on the front line (in the dirt and abuse of the body of the car) that'll fail first.

For the doors and hatch - the alarm connectors AND light switches share the same circuit it appears - so if the interior lights don't work, neither will the alarm.

I wonder if a P-car mechanic would know how to fix it...or an alarm specialist? I guess I wouldn't wanna pay $75 an hour to have someone "look for a problem"!

Do you know if there is an "alarm off" function? Like turning the door key in the lock 3 times fast, or something?

OMG - no!

A thorough check of all the "connectors" in the alarm circuit will prolly solve 90% of the issues, I'd bet.

Start there for sure.

I've found that the alram always stops honking (once tripped) if I turn the key in the driver's side door, to the right, if I recall.

If you have the keylock behind the door for an alarm switch, unplug it and the alarm is set. I don't have a key for mine and I can turn it on that way.

But not for the newer cars.

How hard would it be to wire the alarm to a keyless entry to arm when you lock the door?

Is the light you're talking about the one that is around the door lock; lights when it's armed? Where can you get one?

I know nothing about wiring these things to alarm systems or anything, but Ollie (Sweden?) & MArtin (New Zealand) know a lot about this stuff...

I wanted to mount them up to blink even thogh I have no alarm- doubt it will be simple enough though...

Michelle- the ones we are talking about light up at the TOP of the button- not around it... You can get them at PErformance Products for one place. The 968 ones are #'s: 944 637 238 00- for some reason are cheaper (~1/2) of the 944's....

Rally Guy- I JUST looked for you- lost your e-mail adress- please e-mail me if you want- or anyone else can too:
rkc@kvine.com

The 968 ones are 1/4" taller, BUT, the threading starts up inside a tiny bit, whereas on the 944 ones, the threading starts at the base- this makes the 968 ones ~1/2" taller- otherwise, they appear to be IDENTICAL...

It woulden't be hard at all. If the keyless entry has an output for an "armed" condition - thats all you need. Otherwise look into a little digital electronics with a JK flip-flop and use it to toggle from a pulse for the solenoids... There are many ways that will work - I can post if interested. Also are these LES's or mini lamps?

Not too hard either - prob. the easiest way is to use something that already blinks - ie. blinking LED. Use a transistor and a blinking LED to trigger it. The blinking LED is not seen it is just used to flash the other lamps/LED's.

You need something to "arm" the alarm? Is it an aftermarket or original?
You can do it that way... If the electric door locks are stock, they have position sensors you could tap into with a diode to be safe as to not accidentally create closed loop logic (accidentally making the alarm go crazy). If it is not stock, you could make a position switch (not recommended - it could malfunction) or you could use keyless entry to trigger it (its pulses)...

They are LED diode's...

I thought these things blinked anyway, that they just needed a charge(?)- I really don't understand any of this to be honest. I WAS wanting to wire them (get my mechanic to, that is...) to start blinking automatically, as soon as the doors were locked. I had recently decided though, that it might be easier, & better, to do them so that I could flip a hidden toggle or something & have them just start blinking- that would be better b/c they would not start blinking when I'm IN teh car w/door locked- I wouldn;t really want that.... Would just flip tje switch as I got out of the car...
