Is this something like what you're developing? I'm thinking of installing something like this on my 3 cars.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking about and his price certainly seems pretty good so that may be the way to go. I'd just buy this guy's product and combine with the halogen bulbs and everyone would be happy!

I guess the next question is what sort of blink pattern should we have? I can see the point of going solid after awhile so you don't drive people behind you crazy.

Wish that fellow's product wasn't a small hockey puck in size. A thin rectangle that we could stickey tape in front of the third brake light housing would work best and look clean.

Let me do some more checking and talk to that fellow. It is along the lines of what I was thinking.

A clicking relay right behind your head might be annoying in stop and go traffic. I wonder if there is any way to do this with some solid-state parts.

Oh yeah. You want to do this solid state. And my idea is to have the blink pulse somewhere around every 0.3 to 0.5 seconds for complete cycles. I'm talking to cops and their suppliers to figure out how to get something off the shelf. The cops really like this idea so maybe they will twist a few arms to find something.

I do think this reversion to solid on after 5 to 10 seconds, or whatever, is a good idea. It would drive you crazy following a car with a constant flashing light at stop lights.

Question is how long should we make the pulse mode? 5 seconds? 7 seconds? 10 seconds? How long does it take to catch the eye and enter the pea brain of a soccer mom yacking on her cell phone?

Why not adjustable with a user-adjustable trim pot?

Sam, eeerr, that is a custom job. It would be nice to get one off the shelf that can do it.

I think the one ELLSSUU pointed out had a relay. It's also quite large. This shouldn't be much bigger than 2 9v batteries stacked side-by-side, for it to be universal.

The longer you have been _off_ the brakes (time between applying them), the more "vigorous" the flashing should be. It is in these circumstances (like when you have been driving at freeway speeds, then all of a sudden everyone slows down), that the people behind you need to wake up and do a big speed adjustment so they don't rear-end you. The flashing might also be longer in this case in the event that you are a long distance in front of the person behind you.

I was thinking something like this: http://www.thelapd.com/Merchant2/mer..._Code=Lighting

That's the Corvette unit I'd mentioned.

I agree that the one I posted is too big. Something around the 10 sec. range is probably the best. I've seen a few Accords with this on them. I'll call my Honda dealership and see if they have access to the product.

In the meantime I'm gonna take a wait-and-see for you.

BTW, what's required to make my rear-sides blink? Wire and connectors/dual filament bulb?

scott, what do you mean about rear sides blink?

If you want the sidemarkers to flash when you turn signal or flasher, it is an easy job.

I need to write up the instructions for Simpson Man, so will have it all done and can just send out Word doucments via email. It really is a nice upgrade. and the rear is cheap and easy. The front is still cheap, but a lot more work.

Michael, I have no idea what you are talking about but with your change in avitar, suspect you may be going to try and level a city.

I have talked to a couple manufacturers that supply the cops. One thinks they may be able to cook something up with 40 LEDs in the third eye. Flash quick for ten seconds and then go solid on. I think the whole package may cost a hundred bucks though.

Well let me know how many people are interested as I have to order at least 50 units.

I have a sample coming so can see how good it works.
