i had a 1990 RX7 before buying my first 944 na. it was a good car and revved freely to 8500rpm. the change to a redline of 6500 or 6600 rpm in the 944 was a big change. but the handling and feedback of the 944 (even the normally aspirated version) is better than the stock RX7

The 924 was first. It dates from the mid '70s (1975, I think). The first RX7 year was 78-79.
The (flared) 944 was introduced in 1982 in Europe, and the 2nd Generation RX7 in 1986.
As for the 928, we're still looking at at least 2-3 years before the first RX7.
Porsche was definitely before Mazda with both body styles by several years.
