Default 944 Belt Advice

New to 944 maintenance....I am very familiar with the 924 and I am getting a 944 that should have the timing belts done....I have many years of experience working on cars and lots of patience....Is is advisable to try this myself for the first time....and how about the tensioner tool?....are these available to rent or borrow?....

The Krikit seems to work OK.

As the 944 is and iterference engine -- meaning the valves and pistons should not share the same space -- you have to keep the belts in good shape.

My first 924 was the Dolomite Gray Metallic! Loved that car!

The krikit is a cheap belt tensioning tool that can be bought from AutoZone for $10 (P/N. KR1) There are several listers that have used it, myself included, and have not experienced any side effects. I was a novice wrencher when I attempted my timing belt reploacement a couple of months ago and I encountered nothing that Rennlist couldn't help me with.
