Default Tire question

At the risk of sounding like a dumb question I have a small situation.

I have a set of 16's I bought from another 944S owner with Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star's installed. The fronts have plenty of tread but the rears are getting pretty low.

The trouble is Z1*'s are not made in this size now but the ZII* is. The tread looks nearly the same. Any negatives using these rears?

I am trying to get to a DE but if I buy all new tires I'd have to go with Toyo as ZII's are not made for the front size (figures) and that blows the budget for the other car I'm working on. Otherwise I'm just going to use them as they are for AutoX and wait on DE.

The 1st picture is ZII* and the 2nd pic is Z1*.

ZII star specs are considered quite an upgrade from Z1's.
They are my current favorite DD/autox tire.

With increasing traction in the rear the car should to tend to understeer more than before, right?

ZI Star Specs F with ZII Star Specs R - the rears will produce more grip, and as frostedflakejake has said above here, will induce understeer at the limits of traction. For a basic DE, you wont likely be at those limits Go DE, have fun, learn!

BTW, the ZII Star Specs are available for the F 205/55R16 (for when the budget allows for more tires)
