Default Driving the car after replacing the rod bearings

Having Monday and Tuesday off, it looks as if I will finally have the time to reinstall my crossmember. With the rod bearings being the first internal engine repiar that I have ever done, I am a little nervous about how it will turn out. I'll do a search on priming the oil pump, but is there anything else that I should do before starting up the car? After I start the car, is there anything that I should look out for to see if I messed up with the installation of the rod bearings? Lastly, is there a break-in procedure to follow after rod bearing replacement? As always, thanks in advance.

If you just did your rod bearings, the oil pump, being gear driven should still be primed. I'm sure you used plenty of assembly lube on the rod bearings - I just used a 5/30 dino oil for the first 200 miles, then switched back to Mobil 1 15/50. By the same token, I've known a couple who have changed rod bearings at the track and raced the next day.

On start up, just watch for good oil pressure and make sure the lifters pump up normally. Good luck.
