Cool Christian! Glad you didn't waste more time on the hatch--you have a bigger project to worry about!
I was going insane with that thing rattling! Maybe the spring loses strength and becomes loose in there?

I might put some foam padding in between the roller and housing, with the cover fully extended. If I wanna roll it up for some reason, I'll take out the foam.
The cover does protect the carpet from the sun...and whatever cargo you cary from prying eyes!

I think this is where I got my split-seat cover last year. It was decent quality fabric...way better than the torn POS that was in the car when I got it.
In this case, looks like you would be replacing the roll-up spring cover with a fabric cover that you manually fold up when you don't want it out. Might be worth it to lose the rattles and gain a usable cover that can stay open all the time.

There was a write up a few years ago on how to "fix" the cargo shade using a pull-down window shade from K-mart. I'd love to use mine because I always travel pretty full. I use the shade mount as a "stop" so cargo doesnt slide forward for now.
BTW..
I fixed my annoying engine bay rattle.. It sounded like the right light bucket or the license plate frame... It was the washer tank that was about 1/16" off of the fender well- as my idle dipped to 800 or so the MF'er rattled like no tomorrow. I tightened bolts- no luck.. still rattled.
In comes the blue RTV- a little dab underneath the washer fluid tank, on the bolt surfaces--and bolt back in place.. VOILA. My last rattle solved-
That is until I hear the next one..

Fixed my rattle by installing new pins, and the rubber nut type thingies.
It's so sweet to not hear the clunking anymore.
As to net. I grabbed a trunk nut out of a rental Grand Marquis. Stretched it from the passenger side hatch latch, to the passenger side rear seatback latch. Keeps things out of the way, and does a pretty good job of holding stuff out of the way.
