This is an 968 engine with 135000 kilometers on it (84000 miles)

A rod broke and made a hole in both the block and the pan.
The question is what pieces that can be reused.
The head and varicam is obiously alright but my main concern is the crank.
What do you think? Should it be alright or is it possible it could be damaged beyond repair?

And how about the block, can that hole be repaired?

I'm considering buying this engine so please help!

Thanks
Gustaf

Looks like the oil pan took the hit. Not the block. Unless you have more pictures to post.

If the cylinders are not cracked and the block does not have a hole through then the block should be useable. The crank would have to be checked at a machine shop.

Don't know if a later oil pan will fit the 968. Most likely.

Will need a rod and piston.

the crank is probably toast, if the rod's big end siezed and then broke, the crank is probably not going to be repairable. It looks like it broke the main girdle as well, any leaks there and you have no oil pressure.

Here's pic of the hole in the block.
So I guess this engine is worthless except the head?
Hmmm....I was looking for parts to my 951 but if it's just the head it isn't worth it.

I have an spare S motor in my basement with the same damage. Crank will be F'd (rod did some amazing damage to it) and I am not sure about the head.
