Hi all,

Just bought the wife a 1988 944 S to go with her BMW 840

When we got it the PO had removed the rear badge ( a respray at some time in its 28 year existence or perhaps a badge delete from the factory)

Anyway now have a replacement and wonder if anyone can help with the measurement of the location

I seem to recall that there's not actually a specific, consistent location. So it's probably a case of 'look at how it sits on other cars, then eyeball it'...

 

There is a portion of the Factory Service Manual regarding the placement of badges and the specific measurements. While eyeballing it generally works, it's immediately apparent to those with experience that the badge is in the wrong place.

 

That's awesome- I stand corrected, and had no idea that was in the manual! Apparently there are just a lot of 944s out there that have had badges put back on incorrectly.

 

Have scoured the manuals available on line looking for the placement measurements to locate the rear badge.

Would anyone with an 'S' mind going out to the garage with a ruler and share on here?

Factory paint on an 87 944S and no rear accidents and has the original dealer decal on the rear panel so mine is in the original location.

The right side of the S is 1.5 inches away from the vertical seam between the rear panel and the rear quarter.

The bottom of the letters is 1 inch above the body crease line below and nearest to them.

The left side of the S is 13/16 inch spaced from the rightmost part of the last 4. Just one notch past 3/4 inch on the ruler.
