Default !@*#^$#! Window Scratches

Accidentally posted on turbo board, it will get more traffic here.

Out of nowhere I got 3 vertical scratches along the entire passengers side window. They are on the inside of the window which leads me to believe that they were done by something inside the door. Anyone else ever had this happen to them? Any ideas on what is behind the door panel that could trap something that will scratch the window when put up or down? Are not to deep scratches removeable from glass?

TIA
Mike

Yes, toothpaste and a lot of polishing.

It works. Trust me.

No one cleaning the glass with diamond rings as far as I know.

My dad suggested the toothpaste idea, I guess well start with that and see how it goes. Problem is gonna be finding what did it to prevent further damage.

Thanks

Never had a window in the 944 scratch from operating it.

Did see the wife scratch the inside of her windshield while cleaning it.

Didn't turn her wedding bands around first.

Are the scratches evenly spaced? Do they start and stop in the same places?

there are 3 that run vertical along the window that come from out of the door panel all the way to the top, it looks like something high up in the door panel scratched the panel as it was being put down. I probably am gonna have to take off the panel and look indide teh door.

Sounds like you got some abrasive stuck on the weather strip. These days there are a lot more items than diamonds that will scratch glass. Pull the inner door pannel and check it out.

The door panel removal is simple and straight forward. Just be careful around the window switches, as it's easy to rip the mounts if you are not paying attention...

Beyond that, it's a bunch of screws.

Let me know how the toothpaste works. I have scratch's on the pasanger side windshield from the whiper (PO). It looks like some one ran sand paper over the glass. I had some stuff for my motorcycle helmet visor that would remove scratches in the lenze. Don't know if it will work on glass. I need to find the stuff so I can try. Maybe some of that solution used to fill star cracks would work.

Toothpaste will work but you will be rubbing a long time. A quicker way would be glass polishing compound like the types used by astronomy folks to build their own mirrors. Do a google search and find suppliers that sell the compounds.

Maybe the easiest way would be to find a used window off a parts car.
