So I am going to try and grind off every nth tooth from the ABS trigger wheel to come up with 8 equally spaced triggers and feed that signal into the speedo. It should work since the hall effect sensor in the transaxle is similar. I will let you know how it goes.
Wouldn't that mess with ABS? For a pulsed signal like that you can cobble together a divider with an AVR and a few supporting components to sit between the sensor and the speedo. It's just a simple timer/interrupt routine that divides by N to feed the speedo the desired signal without messing up your ABS trigger ring.

You could use those 6 bolts to hold down 6 "teeth" pretty easily (edit: is it 6 teeth you need, or 8?)... I was thinking, some L-shaped steel brackets. Width isn't super important, but get it in the ballpark... it's the pulses per revolution that IC will need. For the sensor, needs to be hall-effect. I used this one for my crank pickup, they also sell this threaded one that may make gapping easier. As long as you hook it up correctly, they're all produce the same square wave signal. You can find generic hall sensors on ebay for under $12. One caveat - some hall sensors need a shutter wheel and magnet behind it. For simplicity, go with one that just faces the moving tooth, all in one unit. Still under $40.
