right. Was watching Mail Call, and they did a bit on Half tracks.

Love them half tracks. Particularly the Quad .50's one.

Anyways. The talked about the engine. a 386 (if I remember the number correctly) inline six, made of "Chrome Nickel alloy" Was stamped on the block.

They said they did this for longevity. Anyone know of something similar?

Our aluminum jobbies I like, and last a lot longer than I would imagine. But for something more pedastrian this Chrome Nickel alloy stuff sounds interesting.

I'm sure what they called Chrome Nickel Alooy, is probably just a certain type of steel alloy, that has no real name today.

BTW the tracks were rubber covered metal cleats attached by steel wire. A big rubber band. No pins, or links, solid. Guy said they are still running 60 year old tracks on a daily basis today.

Kind of makes our timing belts look like a pile of dog poo don't it.

As far as i know Chrome Nickel Alloy is very hard type of steel. IIRC it also cost more than twice as much. I'm sure Tim knows.

Ni-Cr alloys are used in elevated temperature applications because they retain more of their strength and resist corrosion. Some of them are quite expensive, though, and they are a real biatch to machine.
