Default Help on building ideas for a 944 Track/Street car

I've done forum searches but not really found the answers I am looking for.

I am considering building a track-mostly with limited street use car for a budget of $10k or less. I sold an E36 BMW a few years ago that I used for that purpose and regret it. But, don't want to go back to a BMW. The 944 NA probably has similar power/weight ratio which isn't great but probably all I can expect within the budget.

My question is, which year(s) make the best 944 NA budget track car? Any opinions?

I am leaning towards '83 to '85.5 years for their lighter weight. Are the front Control Arms all steel for these years and are these ideal? My plans for the suspension would be to lower the car a bit, increase the spring rates, and install konis. Nothing too severe but definitely firm things up over stock.

I do some of my own work but would hire my mechanic to also do some. Assume I get a car with basic maintenance up to date and not a severely neglected car for $4-5k. Put $ 3-4k into upgrades, what would you do first?
I see stages going like this:
  1. Brake pads and rotors
  2. shocks and springs and control arms, sway bar upgrade
  3. performance tires
  4. remove unnecessary weight and add roll bar and sport seats

I don't want to put more than $10k into a car because I believe you shouldn't track something you aren't able to sacrifice if you go off track and hit something. I might be able to find a stock 350Z for this and have it be faster than the 944 NA but it isn't as alluring to me.

We are selling this street legal 944, you couldn't duplicate for the asking price, and well maintained.
