Unhappy Blower fans always on

Hey guys!

Is this condition caused by the two resistors mounted beside the battery.
My blower fans for inside the car are on even when the fan speed selector is at 0. The don't go fast but they just keep on going.....and going.....and going.....kind of like the Everedy Bunny.

I think the resistors you're talking about are engine cooling fan related only. Is the car cooling normally?

Not sure where the resistor for the interior ventilation fan may be located, but it sounds like this is your problem.

2 points that may help:

1. even when the fan is set at 0, the blower fans still run at a bit of an "idle" of sorts, they are never fully off when the car is on.

2. if your problem is that when the key is removed they still run and drain your battery... I had this problem! It was the ignition relay/cylinder in the steering wheel. After all these years it just plain wore out.

There used to be a running joke about this ventilation "idle" on the E-Mail lists. Something to the effect of German car makers being obsessed with suffocation.

Yeah, the fan is going to run at a very slow "idle" speed even with the **** turned to 0. But you should barely be able to tell, though.

I think just about all cars made since the '80s have this feature and as Luis joked it is suffocation, or actually carbon monoxide poisoning, related. You used to hear about people dying after getting stuck in the snow and keeping the car running to stay warm until the plows came by all the time. You don't hear those stories much anymore.

The CAT effectively removes the carbon monoxide. So well that you can take a new car, fill it with gas, start it up in a closed garage and the most you will get is a head ache.

If you have a test pipe forget it. Just put me in your will for the car!
