Talking What it costs to own a 944 YMMV

Just did the breakdown of what it cost me to own a 944 for 35 months.

Taking the cost of the car and all the money i put into the car, which includes some maintenance like brakes.

the cost over 35 months is $307 a month. since the car was down about two months waiting for an alternator, in the shop for the motor, etc. the cost over 33 months is $326.

Sounds good till you take into account the mileage. The cost per mile was $0.59. A little steep considering the government allows about $0.35 as a reimbursement. Glad I didnt use the car much for business.

Again YMMV.

Moral: Don't get a CPA and then become a lawyer. Because if you do, you will analyze every penny then argue with yourself over why it cost so much!!!

Wow, you got off easy. Mine counting cost of car (only over 12 months, so cost of car makes a bigger difference) is $605/month. Without cost of car it's $272/month.

Let's see.

$4500 - purchase price, including tax, title, etc.
$1350 - Belts, rollers, waterpump, and starter
$1000 - Clutch parts
$200 - Est. cost of tools for clutch job
$50 - Battery
$1500 - Head rebuild, re-weld driver's seat mounts.
$50 - Ice shark grounds and new starter solenoid.
----------------------------------------------------------------
$8650, for an 83 NA that I've owned for 14 months, or $617 a month!
I've driven about 4500 miles, so that comes to 1.92/ mile.

I've always been afraid of performing such an analysis. But then again: The joy of driving your Porsche: Priceless.

Don't forget to subtract the equity, or what the car is worth if you sold it.

Under $200, that counts cost of car, parts, and ins too. It pays to do your own work. Still cheaper than a honduh.

Whatever it costs to run is usually exceeded by the enjoyment I get from owning it...
It's only money

My car has cost me 45c/mile over a 2-year period - not counting purchase price, gas, insurance or CA-State registration fees.

Take out purchase price and you can cut my costs in half. But then to be fair you'd have to tack on ~$1200 for insurance, and who knows how much for gas.

Do upgrades count? Cause I'm dumping another $600 soon

You really can't complain about spending a total of $8600 on a car!! A used Neon costs more than that!

I just took the cost of the car and repairs with a little maintenance. didnt take the gas or insurance into account. The insurance is too much of a variable depending on location. the gas, well who was it that told me the gas pedal was either on or off, and thats how you drive a porsche.

If i leased the cheapest honda it would have cost me about 300 a month for three years. now that i have a definite residual i was able to calculate the costs.
