Default O/T Need Acrobat Writer

For all the software experts around here, is there a way I can find adobe acrobat writer for free somewhere around?
I need it to transalate some documents for my Masters class, and they are in pdf format, so I need to move them to word to run the translator program on them. Any other way to take the text from the pdf files?
Thanks,
Agustin

Having the Acrobat software doesn't mean you can get into just any PDF. If it's been locked up you are just SOL!

The encription uses 128 bits.

So if the reader doesn't let you cut and paste text niether will the writer.

pdf is an open format, so you could always write an interpreter to translate it into a desired format.
OpenOffice includes pdf output capability, but I've never tried pdf input.
xpdf can translate pdf to post script, which has even more interpreters and translators.
I don't know about acrobat or word though, since I don't have or use either.

PDF is not as open as you think. Even the data miners can't pull text out of it if it's been encripted. I have a few of them that I've tried.

If it's encrypted. He didn't say it was, so I was giving suggestions based on the assumption it wasn't.
Ooohh!! I thought of a tedious, but possible, way to get it out if it's encrypted.
Print it, then scan it with an OCR scanner package.

Acrobat reader allows you to select and copy text from an unencrypted document natively. Look in the header area for a "T". If it's encrypted, good luck. OCR might be the easiest way.

if you just want to write pdf files then you can get this....

==============
Create PDFs for Free
Paul Ashelfford wrote with a great tip regarding sending invoices, purchases orders, etc. via email. It's important to have a universal format for these documents. Sure, you can make them in Word or Excel, but not everyone wants to download the readers for those programs. What's the answer? PDF files! Most folks seem to have the free Acrobat reader installed on their systems these days. Now you can create PDF files without buying an expensive program such as the full version of Acrobat, by using a free program called CutePDF Printer. The name is a little misleading, because this program does more than just print PDFs; it creates them. Head on over to get a no cost copy:

Don't think he would ask for the actual Acrobat program if he could use the reader to cut an past the text. There are locks you can put on a PDF for text and images but still leave the entire document un-encripted.

Maybe Agustin will give us a link to the documents in question and I can see how locked they are.

You could always just break the encryption. Be careful if it uses an Adobe encryption algorithm though. Dmitry Skylarov, a Russian, wrote a program, while in Russia, where it was legal, to decrypt Adobe's ebooks (for Constitutionally guaranteed fair use purposes). When he came to the US for a conference the Feds busted him for Adobe.

macs running osx can make pdf's from anything that can be printed without any extra software- it's built into the OS. you go to the print menu, and then choose save as pdf from the output options.

All great advice, but he needs to go FROM PDF to Word. Not the other way around. At least that's what his post said. The only way I know is to print it out and scan it, and then run it through an OCR program and import it into Word. A PDF is essentially an "image" file.
