Default Rear Shocks clicking

I just replaced a set of worn out shocks with a set of Red Konis. My car is an 84. The ride is now much better but I have some clicking noise in the rear now. I torqued the hardware again thinking they might be loose but to no avail, the noise is still there. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

It might be the CV joints, which is completely unrelated to the shocks.

The CV's are only 6 mo old and still in very good condition.

Check to see if the CV's are tight.

When does the ticking occure?

The ticking happens primarily over the bumps. If the road is smooth, I don't hear it at all.

Has to be a loud tick sound to hear it in the car. These are new Konis?

I would look at the mountings. Could these be oversized on the shocks? Is the bolt worn?

Could also be a bad shock -- broken check valves.

I just put in Koni yellows and have the same click on one side of the car just when I go over a bump. I will be interested to see what you find and if the shock is bad if Koni replaces them. I bought mine from Paragon in Feb but just put them on the car about a month ago.

Are the Red Koni's hydraulic or gas shocks? My Koni Reds (hydraulics) also make a clicking noise which I hope will go away I get some miles on them.

Has anyone adjusted their Konis before the installation? If so what did you do or change?

I followed their instructions for changing the firmness and I put them about 1.5 turns from soft.

I called Koni to find out if this has been a problem for anyone else and it has, but only on the early model 944. There was a switch from a 10mm to 12 mm bushing in the control arm in Aug of 84. 07/84 and earlier 944 must use the shock with the 10mm bolt hole diameter. 08/84 and later cars use the 12mm bolt hole diameter. I have the wrong shock for my application. He did tell me that a spacer can be used or to ream the bushing on the car to accept the 12mm bolt and the noise will go away. I hope this helps you guys. I'll go out and take care of this tomorrow and confirm that this repair works and post the results to the board.

Let me clarify a bit here. The change in the rear shock bolt sizing came at the 85/85.5 split when Porsche changed the trailing arm from steel to aluminum. The upper bolt remained the same diameter but the lower bolt went from 12x1.5x70 on the steel arm to 14x1.5x85 on the aluminum arm. The Koni application for the steel arm is 26-1209 or 26-1209 Sport and the applicaton for the aluminum arm is 8040-1035 or 8040-1035 Sport. The shocks are different enough that I wouldn't think someone would interchange them but you may want to check your part numbers just to be sure.
