Default 944 engine work

I have a 83' 944 w/ approx. 100k miles. Engine needs rebuilt again (Found out about dry rot, timing belts, and zero clearance the hard way @ 48K). Eurosport has changed hands and is now run by a different crew. Can anyone recommend a good engine shoppe within 50 miles of MAnchester NH?? I would be much ablidged.

thanks

Get a good used engine. What is wrong with your engine? The bottom end or the top end? It will cost you fractions and still give you a great running car. Did you break the timing belt or is it just the valve seals or something simple?

The car originally came from Arizona, and by the time it had 48K the timing belt was over 6 yrs old and apparently missing some teeth. It died in the garage and I had several bent valves to prove it. The engine was professionally rebuilt by licensed Porsche mechanic cost (2k in early 90's) but it never had the same amount of pep. Now the car has around 100k on it and is in obvious need of TLC. Blue smoke on start-up, sluggish, loss of power, oil noticable around #1 exhaust port. Loud clacking sound at idle. Does this engine have mechanical lifters? The timing belt hasn't been changed since the rebuild so I will have to have the car towed to the shop just to be safe.

I have plans to build a leak down tester and perform some diagnotics on the engine before I let someone else tear it apart. I think it is mainly valve train but I want to be sure. If I am going to pay someone to change the timing belt I might as well have them fix whatever else is wrong then.

I've sent my car out to Randolph Racing 10miles south of Boston in Stoughton. There are couple other independent shops around the Boston area if you look around -- and if it's not too far out for you.

I toasted the engine and figure if I'm going to drop a new engine in anyways, drop in a bigger one (like a 3.0L). They are doing the engine swap. The job is in progress and nothing but praises so far (but let's see after I get the bill....)

Pardon my ignorance but, will they replace the tranny and the diff at the same time? About how much do you expect it to cost?
