Default side view mirror rebuild

Does anyone have a magic procedure to get the triple square bolt in the flag mirror base to mate back with the upper portion? The spring has so much tension that I can't seem to find a way to get the bolt to start back into the upper portion.

I used the tripple square socket(the longer ones) and a ton of force by hand and had it in my lap. You may be able to use a slow drill with the socket, and you may need a vice. Not to clamp the flag part thou. You could use the mirror motor mounting tabs in the flag and secure it to a piece of plywood using longer bolts and then hold the plywood in the vice. That might give you enough leverage to push down on the flag section. I used a little graphite grease on the threads.

I read a procedure on here a while back that involved cutting off part of the spring. I have this to do with one of my mirrors that exploded too. Was thinking of getting a longer bolt. Good luck.
