trouble shooting turn signal problem
hey so i have a problem where the hazards work but the turn signals don't
i replaced the fuse, i think #21, to no effect. when i was playing with this problem earlier, my friend was turning a wrench and i did hear a small cracking in the turn signal steering column unit.
what trouble shooting methods could i employ to try to figure out where the problem is.
another detail is i was away for 6 months at one time and apparently there was some leakage and my friend told me the dash was soaked at one time. not sure if that could have fried some wires.

Just an idea,
some turn signal problems can be traced to a burned out bulb or poor connections in the turn signals or ?? or a dirty socket.
EDIT -clarify. Check all the bulbs and sockets for all the turn signal bulbs- front and rear.

You have a 924S, right? It probably is the turn signal stalk, the plastic is old and cracks in all kinds of crazy ways. You can verify for sure by unplugging the connector from it and using a paper clip to complete the turn signal circuit. For a replacement, don't buy a used stalk, they are all failing. Either pay out the nose for an OE Porsche one, or I discovered that the turn signal stalk for a VW Vanagon is a drop-in replacement. The Vanagon stalk is shaped a little different, but the mounting and connections are the same and it is still in easy reach of your fingers.

awesome tips - thanks
can you help me understand the disconnecting the connector from the stalk?
what am i looking for, and how much am i removing from the steering column?
great insights though. feeling hopeful as a result

I just bought the URO part on Amazon and it's been fine. I think they are available in brown or black and with or without cruise control, so make sure you get the one you want.

you are THE MAN. great tip. definitely worth 20 bucks to see if it works.
could you help me understand the technique you were talking about in terms of short circuiting the blinker switch to confirm that the problem is there?
