968 Rims--Re-fin, or no??
Got the rims today. 3 are fine, but one is kinda beat looking. Seller said there were a few scrapes...but it looks like a few chips that were sanded down.
Question is, should I have them installed on Saturday, as planned, or take the one rim to a refinisher, spend $100 and have it re-sprayed? That will delay installation for at least a week, and turn a $500 shipped into $600.
Can I buy some Wurths silver/clear paint and just spray the front around the lug nut holes, where the damage is, after the wheels are on the car-and get decent results myself? From 10 feet away, they all look fine (specially with the new concave center caps).
What to do??

yea i think you can do it yourself..
the only question i have is if you should strip the paint before respray? or just sand and respray the spot that needs it.. seems like if you did that the rest of the wheel will look kind of weird/uneven. the color is bound to be slightly off.
either way do it before you put tires on there
what kind of tires are you gonna get? 205/55-16 and 225/50-16? brand? im still in the middle of buying another set of those 968 wheels.. heh.. with 7" fronts this time. lucky you

Already bought the tires when I got the car. I would dis-mount, and re-mount my current 205/55 and 225-50 Dunlop SP5000.
I guess touching up would show as a different color. I hope a refinish by a pro wouldn't result in a wheel that looks different from the rear wheel...

Andy-
A even coat of paint over all the wheels will give them a fresh look and make sure there is matching all around. I wasn't advocating a "touch up" only to the affected area. I did this with my old D90's, but I did go to a darker color. It was surprisingly easy as these were the first I have ever painted.
I have some of the same damage as your to my 993 Cups. I might just get off my butt and paint them this winter.
Good Luck,

I just worry about sanding the paint down, especially around the curved inner portion--D90's seem like they would be easy to spray.
Should I offer the seller less money because of the wheel's condition? He nicely said don't send a check till I check out the rims. I don't wanna be a dick about it, but $500 w/shipping is up there, at least I think so.

I don't know about priming/sanding/painting, especially a wheel, with all the contours, etc. It would be drip city, I am guessing! And they would never shine like stock.

Personally, I am a spaz so I would not do the work myself
If you are on good terms with a body shop they could spray the wheels.
A few years back I has a set done @ $30 per wheel.
Looked awesome! They where the C2T's on my old car.
