944 Lug Nuts
#16
I have the black aluminum ones.
While we are discussing lug nuts, I have a question about something I read/heard once: Is it true that the aluminum lug nuts are convexed to specifically match Porsche OEM wheels, and that some aftermarket wheels for our cars have different concave openings that necessitate that a different lug nut other than stock be used?

I have seen evidence of mis-matched lug nuts.
If you use non-Porsche lug nuts (without the proper concave) on a Porsche wheel, you have a great chance of cracking the wheel.
A customer of my mechanics made this mistake on a 17" 911 wheel, cracked it. He left it at the mechanics, and they put it to good use as a hose reel thingy. (that's about all it is good for now).
So yes, if you are using Porsche wheels, make sure the lug nuts have the rounded end that fits FLUSH with the wheel.

Hm... I was told that they're magnesium, actually, and hence the low weight. However, I received this information from a tire shop that snapped one of my lugs off ( probably just an excuse ) while putting new tires on, and hence I had to take the car to a professional to have them taken out... absurdly expensive. I think I shall buy steel lug nuts in the future so as to avoid them sheering off again... another perspective...
Are they magnesium, or are they aluminium / just an excuse?

I highly doubt it.
I did a little experiment with one stock lugnut. I ground away a bit of the anodizing and submitted the area to the acid test. No fizzing, so not magnesium. Definitely aluminum.
BTW, FCP Euro has the steel lugnuts for $1.39 per... A bargain at twice the price.

Wow, $200.00 for a set of lugnuts ?
I'm guessing that would be suitable for a concours car at a beauty contest, but for everyday use, open black steel lugnuts are safer and
cost a lot less. That's what i use on my 911 as well as my SP2 race car ...
