Smile reference sensors..944

While at work today, I was looking for Porsche parts, and found out that AutoZone carries reference sensors for early 944's. About 125 each and are made by Wells, a large electrical aftermarket company that also supplies the big three here in this country with new parts as well. Hopefully I won't need any any time soon, but thought I'd spread the word..Thanks

$125 is a lot... you can get them for well under $80/ea all day long on Pelican Parts, Rennbay, Rockauto, etc. Trick is to get BMW part, from say a late 80s 535i.

Thanks Michael. Haven't priced them on Pelican..Why would I want the BMW part? Better quality or lower price?

They're cheaper, though you end up with a much longer lead coming from it than you really want. I was able to get genuine Bosch sensors for about $180.00 for the pair a while back. Based on what I've read here I wouldn't trust anything but the OE suppliers for electrical parts. The crank sensors in particular are a design that isn't the best to begin with. They put out such a small signal while cranking that almost anything can compromise it. Just look how many crank-no start threads there are on this forum.

We carry several brands but this FAE brand sensor is the best seller:

I bought a pair of those FAE sensors about 6-8 months ago. Worked great out of the box and still going strong!
