Default Am I still in a stock class?

The other day my friend and I had this bright idea to take the top half of the back seat off of my '88. Would this take me out of a stock autox class? Just wondering, since it is only a cosmetic mod, but it does make my car around 30 pounds lighter (just a guess). It's only two bolts, easy to put back in, but I kind of like it out. It looks different.

As far as SCCA, you'd be out of stock class. If it came equipped with it on that model and trim package, then it's gotta be there. You're allowed to remove the spare tire and jack and tool kit, but you can't go unbolting parts.

Ditto, stock means as it came unless you can document a year that it was offered as an opion, and then you have to find what else came in that "option package" and make ALL those changes to class it as stock.

Yes, you will be out of stock, but nobody will care at a local level. If you ever go to a regional event or Nationals you will have to have it there. Also, you will not notice any time difference with it in or out. If you find it useful to have it out, then leave it out and not worry about the class issue.

In the SCCA, that'll take you to the optional class SM2 (maybe not available where you are). Otherwise I believe it's BP class.

Either will screw your times if you don't make most of the other available mods.

Thanks for the answers, I'm not looking to shave any times, I just kind of like having it out for everyday driving, and was wondering if I should bring it with me to any autocross events. It's only two bolts, wouldn't take but about 5 minutes to install/take out anyway.

That would bump you out of stock in local PCA here, too. I'm not sure about the PCRs but NNJ has it's own (simplified) classes.

Bret: in my PCA region autox rules, removing something that's not an option and that causes a reduction in weight will move you into the improved classes.

Your best bet is to run with the rear seat backs installed.

Or even "modified" depending on what you remove, eh Zoltan!?!
