Default What holds the back of the AC compressor on

Sway bar whacked the compressor off its mounts. I tried search, and no luck.

I got the compressor resting on the sway bar, have to get the broken bolt in the front off. Im buying a few nuts, and new lock tite (since I cant find mine) to get the half a bolt out.

the PET says m8x55 for the bolt on the back. I think there is a sleeve in the alternator/AC mounting bracket. It feels hollow. I don't have the best access.

Is it a bolt, if yes do you have a better size than M8x55? Are there different threads on a M8x55? It doesnt look like the sleeve just goes into the compressor, and the compressor "hangs" on the sleeve while the front bolt tightens things up? the PET picture doesn't make sense.

Who had theirs off and can describe?

I have the 10 x 1.25x50 bolt for the front. $2.25 from Ace grade 8.8.

TIA

I think it's a m8 X 1.25 x55 long. Sounds right. The front bolt is larger from what I remember. No sleave that I know of. Let me check my collection of parts and I'll post a photo of the AC mount after coffee and dog walk.

Thanks. That's what I needed to see. my sleeve is poking forward just a bit. I'll back it out the MM so the compressor slips in and get another bolt. I hope nothing is in the compressor.

This job would be easier to do if I just unhooked the hoses.

you're luck, my compressor recently suffered some trauma and it broke the tab off the compressor in the back. so far i don't have a good solution yet. if it didn't work it would be an easy choice

Good news is it looks like the bracket didn't get damaged. Good because what eBay seller couldn't find it and refunded my money.

Any trick to getting things lined up?

I'm using a jack so I'm not battling the weight.

I got the front bolt to hold. Then I got a very thin screwdriver to line up the back holes. Put the Jack under compressor, and scraped the wall of the mount to where the two meet. Wiggled compressor, repeated, got screw to bite.

Thread is 1.25 on rear bolt.

Got it all buttoned up, drove it for a few miles and the volt light went on. changed the voltage regulator, no luck.

The alternator, and voltage regulator tested good. I did change the cluster for the signals/wiper/cruise with one that had the holes for the horn (removed airbag wheel).

Now the hunt for a loose wire begins before I swap out my bosch alternator that tested good for the O'Reillys rebuilt in mexico alternator sitting on the garage floor. It doesn't make sense that it was running fine for about fifteen minutes, then the light went on, and the alternator tested good.

I may put the battery from my Z3 in the car, and drive to the parts store for the "free" test. if it dies I have the extra battery to get me home.
