Dear Quickie: If you are not getting power through the harness to the light, then the wire may be broken up close to the fuse box. It might be time to run a long jumper from the fuse box to the taillight assembly directly. If it lights up then, it will be time to run a new wire. If that is the case, disconnect the old wire from the fuse box, connect the new wire to it, and pull from the rear of the car..The idea is to have the new wire snake up the same path that the old wire used to occupy, and prevent you from having to take off multiple panels to snake the new wire through. Make sense? Many years ago, I went down to the hardware store and bought a medium-sized roll of lamp cord. It makes wonderful jumpers for sorting out just this kind of thing. Don't forget the alligator clips.

Glad that the problem is resolved..where was the short? Don't know if this a common thing or just a one-off. All info is good (most of the time), especially with 30+ year old antiques that we a working on. thanks for the pics and head scratching..
