Okay, I am looking for my first P-car with a budget of $25k max. This will be a third car for weekend fun. Car will see about 3 DE events per year and a couple of autoX's. However, with two kids I may be a bit optimistic. Therefore I am looking for a good car that is a fun weekend runner and a track car in disguise.

I currently drive a modified S4 and have gotten used to the power, but if I get this car I would be getting something more sedate for a daily driver. It would be great if I could afford a p-car with similar power but I would be willing to give that up for fun factor.

What would you recommend? I would like to add rollover protection and harness to whichever one I end up with. My current thoughts are the 89 944 and the 968 coupe w/ M030. OF all the cars I love the looks of the widebody 911s (911 sc targa widebody please!), but I am guessing that it will not be at the top of anyone's list here.

Any advice, alternate suggestions, or flames are appreciated.

How much power is that S4 making that it isn't "sedate" enough to be a daily driver? $25k will get you more than enough car out of a 951 to be a track monster and still street legal.

320hp. Not a problem of being sedate enough. But chipping risks the turbos which is a $7k fix out of warranty. For daily driving I do not have the opportunity to "play" so why run the risk. My next car can be a S60R and stay under warranty without braking the bank. I can then use the P-car for fun and mods.

I thought you were talking about the 928 S4 for a minute.

you don't have to make any sort of power sacrifice going the 944 turbo (951) route. in fact, i'd say under $25k, the 951 is the absolute best car to fit the usage you described. spend some time reading the posts about all the modification potential of the 951 and i think you'll have your answer.

Just curious. Playing devils advocate so dont throw the bad fruit at me.

How much Lotus Esprit can you buy for $25,000. Can you get an Espirit S4 for that?

$25k in a 951!?!?!?!? Now even you can warp time and space in your own personal rocketship.

UDP why would you want one of those? Take it from someone who has had to work on them, they are crap. Never driven a v8 car though, maybe they have some get up and go. It is a right handed world isn't it? Good thing, I have too many sets of golf clubs as it is.
