Default Vented nose panel

Does anyone know who does this? I called SFR and they said they no longer offer the service. I know Lindsey does it but i am not fond of the look of theirs. SO any suggestions. OH BTW, I do not want to use a fiberglass piece, I want to have the stock panel done so I can remove the crest at the same time.

All you need is a dremel, with a good metal cutting bit. Then measure out the distance you want your vent/vents. I've done countless panels for people. Even made a little jig (that I still use to this day) a few years back that allows you to scribe your panel, keeping with the natural curve of the nose piece. On my ex 951, I made one big slit, back in the days, when I did Tim Richard's panel, he opted for two slits, but the same technique works for any design. If you keep a steady hand, you can cut a vent that will have no jagged edges whatsoever, it takes a few hours of delicate cutting but take your time, start cutting about 1/4" from your line, then slowly on each pass, get closer, use long slow cuts taking a little off each time.

OOOPS, almost forgot, be carefull to not loose control of the dremel, ask Tim how much meat and finger nail I lost on his panel...gross.

Take Care,

John-
the issue is that I dont have steady hands and as such I dont care to cut on my own parts. I am comfortable with mechanical work, just not what you are proposing. At the end of the day, I am much more comfortable handing someone money to do it for me. I would love someone local, who has done it to offer the service, but that is unlikely. Do you want to cut mine?

Thanks Matt,

But right now, I'm up to my **** in in jobs. We are still trying to dig out of the situation left when my friend/mechanic ended his life. So for the next couple months, we will be pretty busy getting the backlog of jobs out. If your not in a rush, I'd be glad to do it for you this fall. But right now, we need every minute we have just completeing what we have on the boards.

Take Care

I understand completely. If you are not doing them, can you send me the template? At least then my father in law and I can DIY it. If you could email me something (a pic perhaps) then I can do it this weekend.

DON'T BUY THAT THING! Perry951 said that it was the biggest POS he ever bought. It didn't come close to fitting properly and Perf. Products would not allow him to return it or get a refund. IIRC he said the slots were not even centered on the panel.

Thanks, pete, no problem there. You could screw up a number of them for 340 bucks!

I checked with a local body shop who offered to cut mine for $80. You may just ask around.

I'm going to find a used panel off a wrecked car, slot it and have it painted when I have my car repainted. That way I'll have one of each, be able to switch back and forth, and the paint will match.

Seems like a good idea, but i dont want to switch. Just going to do it and have it repainted (have the holes for the crest filled)

The only thing I didn't like about the process is that the edges would not be rolled under. It seems a bit unfinished to me, but the shop was Kim Song auto body on the east side of Harry Hines between Royal and Forest.

DISCLAIMER: I've never seen them cut a panel, and I haven't seen much of their paint quality. I did notice that his shop was full of Mercedes, Lexus and Infiniti sedans, and that made me feel a bit more comfortable.
